About the Blackstone Police Department
Our Mission
In partnership with our community, the Blackstone Police Department (BPD strives to provide the highest quality of protection, safety, and well-being for all of our residents, businesses, and visitors. In furtherance of this goal, our Department implements a proactive approach to the prevention, detection, and investigation of criminal activity. The most vital tool available to us is the assistance, involvement, and interaction of the citizens we have pledged to serve. It is our hope that this webpage may serve as a bridge between the community and the police department, allowing a free exchange of information, ideas, and feedback, in order to create safer neighborhoods and foster public trust in our department.
About BPD
The Blackstone Police Department is constantly striving to better ourselves and in turn, our community. We take pride in all that we do and hope to provide our community and visitors to our website with as much information as we can. We believe being transparent will help our residents feel that the BPD is working hard 24/7 and will bridge the gap between our agency and our valued citizens.
Fleet
The Blackstone Police Department currently consists of three marked Ford Explorer Interceptors, two Ford Taurus Interceptors, two unmarked Ford Tauruses, and one unmarked Ford Explorer.
The BPD utilizes six police mountain bikes and two all-terrain vehicles. The bikes and ATVs are used to conduct operations in areas such as bike paths, and off-road trails, as well as parks and other public areas.
What We Carry
All Blackstone Police Department patrol cruisers carry a vast array of tools used to protect our community and save lives. All cruisers have various medical supplies, water-saving devices, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Narcan, lock-out kits, and tools to stop a potential active shooter situation. Our cruisers have front, rear, and mobile radar. They're also all equipped with an MDT (Mobile Data Terminal) used for running licenses, license plates, and other essential information.
Our Officers
All Blackstone Police Department officers are full-time academy-certified in accordance with the Municipal Police Training Committee. All officers receive in-service training every year and continue conducting online training throughout the year. All police officers and supervisors qualify at the range at least twice a year. Officers are encouraged to pursue classes and courses offered by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) and other agencies.
The BPD has numerous officers who have extensive training in specific areas of specialty. We currently have a Detective Bureau, School Resource Officer, and Sexual Assault Investigator. We also have officers assigned to the bicycle unit, motorcycle unit, Utility Terrain Vehicle, Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC), and the Blackstone Valley Drug Task Force.
